Satellite Camp Release Paths

The FCI Three Rivers Satellite Camp is a minimum-security federal prison camp for men. It is adjacent to the medium-security FCI and belongs to the same BOP complex. A person can leave the camp for several reasons. Those include movement to the main institution, transfer to another BOP facility, placement in a residential reentry center, home confinement, delivery to another sovereign, or completion of the federal custodial term.

Only some of those paths amount to freedom from custody. A transfer ends placement at the camp but keeps custody active. Community confinement may place someone outside the secure institution while BOP custody continues. A receiving agency may take control when the federal prison term ends. The BOP result and maintained records should identify the status without turning every camp departure into a completed release.

Confirm Satellite Camp Release

The BOP Inmate Locator is the correct first search. It covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. Use an exact register number in #####-### format when possible. A name search can be narrowed by age, race, and sex. Match the full identity and register number because similar names can produce the wrong federal record.

The check should follow the federal trail:

1. Search the BOP locator by register number or full name.
2. Confirm that the record belongs to the correct person.
3. Read the location, status, and release date as separate fields.
4. Ask BOP for a maintained record if the display does not explain the camp departure.
5. Use the federal docket to confirm the sentence and any supervised-release term.

A “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” result shows that BOP no longer confines the person. It does not guarantee that no other agency holds the person, and it does not mean all court supervision ended. BOP also cautions that a person may be in another correctional or law-enforcement system or under community supervision. Report only what the status establishes.

Satellite Camp Component Details

The camp uses the same official complex page and BOP facility endpoint as the main institution. Its separate designation matters for mail and for describing the location accurately. Inmate mail should include the person's name and register number, “FCI Three Rivers Satellite Camp,” and P.O. Box 4200, Three Rivers, TX 78071. A letter addressed only to the main FCI may not identify the intended component.

A March 10, 2026 BOP press release independently identifies the adjacent satellite camp as minimum security. That classification distinguishes the camp from the medium-security main institution, but it does not create a separate release database. Both components remain federal. Neither the Live Oak County sheriff nor TDCJ maintains the BOP release result.

The official live endpoint reported 253 people at the camp in a dated snapshot modified July 30, 2026. It is not a fixed capacity, a current guarantee, or a release count. Population can change. The figure is useful only as a dated description of the component and should never be used to infer whether a particular person remains there.

Satellite Camp Records Contact

The camp is adjacent to FCI Three Rivers at 4000 Highway 72 West, Three Rivers, TX 78071. The complex phone is 361-786-3576, fax is 361-786-5051, and published email is TRV-ExecAssistant-S@bop.gov. The postal address for inmate correspondence uses the satellite-camp designation and P.O. Box 4200. A records request follows BOP's federal process, not the inmate-mail route.

BOP FOIA is the route for existing agency records when the locator is not enough. The general BOP number published with the federal contacts is 202-307-3198. A focused request should supply the full name, register number, camp name, relevant date range, and the exact release or transfer entry sought. Staff may withhold or redact protected information, so seeking a few defined fields is more useful than asking for an unrestricted file.

Camp Placement Versus Discharge

Community placement can be easy to misread. A residential reentry center, often called a halfway house, can provide a transition setting near the end of a federal sentence. Home confinement changes the place of confinement. Depending on the legal status, BOP authority or monitoring can remain even though the person no longer sleeps at the camp.

Camp transfer

A move out of the satellite component while federal custody continues elsewhere.

Community confinement

A less restrictive placement that may still count as BOP custody.

Supervised release

A federal court-ordered period after imprisonment, handled by federal probation.

Release date

The date displayed in the BOP public record, which must be read with its status.

Discharge

Completion of the obligation described by the responsible federal authority.

Federal supervised release is not Texas parole. It also is not court probation administered by Live Oak County's multi-county community-supervision department. The sentencing federal court and federal probation system control those terms. A BOP status may show the end of prison custody while the docket still shows a period of supervision.

Camp and County Records Differ

The word “Three Rivers” can lead searchers into city, county, and federal results. The satellite camp is a federal prison component within Live Oak County, not a county jail. A local arrest booked at Live Oak County Jail follows the sheriff, IVSS-Counties, and local-court path. A state-sentenced prisoner follows TDCJ. Only a federal prisoner uses the BOP locator.

Do not ask the Live Oak Sheriff for a camp release sheet. The sheriff does not maintain BOP incarceration history. Likewise, an absent result in the county notification portal says nothing about a federal prison placement. Begin with the facility named in the record, then stay within its custody system unless a transfer destination sends the search elsewhere.

The main FCI and camp share the federal locator, but they remain separate mapped components. The main institution page identifies the medium-security facility and its larger population snapshot. The camp designation confirms the minimum-security placement. A locator may later display another BOP location without preserving a public narrative of every intermediate move, which is when a focused federal record request becomes useful.

Request a Camp Release Record

Start by saving the BOP locator result with the date checked, register number, displayed location or status, and release date. If a camp exit needs more context, request the existing transfer or release-related record from BOP. Avoid asking the agency to calculate or speculate about why a public field changed.

State the record in plain terms. For example, seek the existing incarceration-location history and the recorded date and type of departure from the FCI Three Rivers Satellite Camp within a defined period. Ask for the receiving institution or agency if maintained and releasable. Electronic delivery can reduce delay and copying, but BOP's current instructions control the submission method.

Then compare the response with the federal court docket. The judgment establishes the sentence and supervised-release terms. The BOP record establishes the custody event. If the receiving field names ICE, USMS, a state, or another authority, continue with that agency. A federal departure should be described as release to the community only when the records support that conclusion.
